Ending on a positive note ๐Ÿ‘‹

Remember how we discussed feedback touchpoints in our last issue? Today, letโ€™s look at whatโ€™s often seen as the final touchpoint with an employee who is leaving: the exit interview. ๐Ÿšช

When employees are preparing to leave, they often feel more liberated to express their true opinions without fear of repercussions. This candidness can provide HR leaders with

โžก๏ธ actionable feedback like what policies or processes need improvement and

โžก๏ธ uncover underlying issues that are typically hard to come by through regular feedback mechanisms

What questions can truly help us get actionable feedback? Letโ€™s explore a few key questions for exit interviews that benefit both you and the departing employee, while maintaining a positive relationship even after they leave. ๐Ÿค“

๐Ÿ‘‹ Reasons for Leaving: Understanding why employees choose to leave is key. Ask open-ended questions to get a clear picture.

  • What factors contributed to your decision to resign, and what could have been done to prevent you from leaving?

  • What is one thing you wish you could change about our organization to make it an even better place to work?

๐Ÿ˜ข What do they have that we donโ€™t? Find out what attracted your employees to their new positions.

  • Are there aspects of the new companyโ€™s culture that appeal to you more?

๐Ÿ“ˆ Overall satisfaction and room to grow: Get insights into their experience with career development at your company.

  • What did we do well? What could we have done better?

  • Were there adequate opportunities for you to grow and advance within the company?

  • What training or development programs did you find helpful or lacking?

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ผ Management / Leadership: Not all leadership styles resonate with everyone, but gaining insight into different perceptions can help improve management practices.

  • What advice would you give management?

  • Were you and your supervisor able to work together effectively?

๐Ÿค Maintaining Relationships: Keeping the door open for future connections is crucial:

  • Weโ€™re sorry to see you go, but we wish you all the best. Would you be open to returning if the right opportunity arose in the future?

  • Anything you want to share but didnโ€™t get an opportunity to?

By approaching exit interviews with an open mind and a genuine interest in learning, you can uncover valuable insights that help create a better workplace for everyone. ๐Ÿ™Œ

So, letโ€™s make these conversations meaningful and use them to drive positive change. Happy interviewing! ๐Ÿ˜Š
