š Building your āAI-Teamā
Slackās latest research, released just last week, revealed a fascinating insight: over two-thirds of workers have never used AI at work. š¤Æ This statistic, uncovered through their Workforce Labās survey of over 5,000 full-time desk workers across the U.S., Australia, India, Singapore, Ireland, and the U.K., highlights a major gap in AI adoption.
Well, Slack didnāt leave us hanging with the data. Theyāve identified 5 distinct AI personas that describe how workers are interacting (or not interacting) with AI, and more importantly, how employers can engage each group to build a more AI-literate workforce.
Meet the AI personas:

Now, here's the thing: If 2 out of 3 workers arenāt even touching AI, while others are either fully on board or keeping their use secret, how do we build a unified, AI-powered workplace?
Itās clearāAI enablement canāt be a blanket approach. As Christina Janzer, SVP of Research and Analytics at Slack, puts it: āPeople are not experiencing AI in the same way.ā
So, what can employers do to bridge this gap?
Slackās AI team-building exercise
1. Understand where your team is at
Itās all about identifying your teamās AI personas. Slack even provides an AI persona quiz that can help leaders figure out which persona types exist within their teams. Itās a fun, engaging way to kick-start important conversations about AI.
2. Address the blockers
Many employees feel uncertain about how and when itās okay to use AI, or even feel guilty about relying on it. Employers need to address these blockers by setting clear AI policies and guidelines. š Research shows that workers without a clear AI policy are 6x less likely to experiment with AI tools.
3. Encourage open AI experimentation
Create a culture where employees feel safe to try, fail, and succeed with AI. A starting point here is giving them open and explicit permission to use AI.
Make the use of AI visible, whether through sharing AI use cases in Slack channels or discussing weekly AI learnings in team meetings.
Slacks Pro Tip: document your teamās most tried-and-true use cases in your team-level agreements and encourage employees to add their personas to their Personal Operating Manuals.
Leaders as always, lead by example - openly share experiences with AI including both successes and failures.
If we want to unlock the true potential of AI in the workplace, we need to meet employees where they are, address their concerns, and empower them to experiment.
