HR has long been undervalued by both employees and employers—employees often see HR as the enemy, and employers view it as a role focused on sorting papers and handling administrative tasks. 📝

Well, well, well. It's 2024 now, and things have changed a bit dramatically, eh?

4 reasons why doing the job of a CHRO is hard (according to JBC)

  1. All companies have people and people can be, well, difficult. Companies face widespread people challenges, from hybrid work struggles to stressed managers and unhappy employees.

  2. With companies abandoning the traditional functional hierarchy, CHROs are tasked with redesigning job architecture, pay practices, managerial roles, performance management, skills models, and career strategy, etc. (ah, is that all? :) )

  3. Thanks to remote work - every company is now a global company. That brings certain challenges such as where to hire, where to locate facilities, and how to globalize leadership, pay practices, employment policies, and labor relations. 

  4. The cherry on top is the current labor shortage which is forcing HRs to rethink their current hiring practices such as skills-based hiring. 

There are definitely a lot more reasons why the job of a CHRO is so hard today which has led to an increasingly complex role. Technology has been evolving at such a rapid pace which is exacerbating this challenge.
